Photos: How do I download Google Photos from my Carthage account?

Answer

Download Photos From Your Carthage Account

Move items from Google Photos in your Carthage account to zip files. From there, you can download the zip files to your computer or use these instructions to move them to a personal Google account.

Before doing this, you will need to make sure that Carthage’s Gmail admins have given you temporary access to Carthage Photos and temporarily set your quota to 100GB rather than the 100GB it normally is. Email to help@carthage.edu to request this be done. Then…

  1. Login to your Carthage Gmail. (If you are told your account doesn’t meet our policy, it is because you have not yet set up your 2-factor, so email us about that, too.)
  2. Access your Photos to see what you have there.
  3. Open a new window and go to the URL https://takeout.google.com
  4. Click Create a New Export.
  5. Uncheck all apps except Google Photos NOTE: If you have LOTS of Photos, exporting all of them at once will likely fail. If that happens, click the button stating “All photo albums included”. That will give you the ability to choose only photos in specific albums or from specific years. Selecting one year at a time is a good strategy.
  6. Click the "Next Step" button at the bottom of the list.
  7. Fill out the screen as shown below, including:
  8. Once the zip files are created you will receive an email with links. Click on the links to download the zipped files to your computer to then organize as you see fit.

DELETE Files from Google Photos

Make sure to delete the photos you downloaded from your Carthage Google Photos account.

  1. Login, click the “waffle/Rubik’s cube” icon at the upper right, and select Photos from the apps listed.  Then highlight the photos to be deleted and click the Trash icon at the top of the screen. There is no known way to “select all” or select large numbers at once other than shift-clicking batches.
  2. Empty the Recycle Bin in the account.

Do I Have Content in Google Photos?
