Photos: How do I download Google Photos from my Carthage account?

Answer

Download Photos From Your Carthage Account

Move items from Google Photos in your Carthage account to zip files. From there, you can download the zip files to your computer or use these instructions to move them to a personal Google account.

  1. Login to your Carthage Gmail account.
  2. Open a new window and navigate to Google Takeout (https://takeout.google.com).
  3. Click Create a New Export.
  4. Uncheck all apps except Google Photos. (NOTE: If you have LOTS of Photos, exporting all of them at once will likely fail. If that happens, click the button stating “All photo albums included”. That will give you the ability to choose only photos in specific albums or from specific years. Selecting one year at a time is a good strategy.)
  5. Click the "Next Step" button at the bottom of the list.
  6. From the Destination drop-down, select "Add to Drive" (if you have access to services like Dropbox, you can choose that instead).
  7. Fill out the screen as shown below, including a File Size of 10GB or whatever you think is appropriate for your account.
  8. Click the "Create export" button. Your files will be exported as .zip files into your Google Drive.
  9. Go to your Google Drive account and look for a newly created folder called "Takeout." From there you can either download the .zip files to your computer or export them from Google Drive (instructions at https://carthage.libanswers.com/faq/361722).

DELETE Files from Google Photos

Make sure to delete the photos you downloaded from your Carthage Google Photos account.

  1. Login, click the “waffle/Rubik’s cube” icon at the upper right, and select Photos from the apps listed. Then highlight the photos to be deleted and click the Trash icon at the top of the screen. There is no known way to “select all” or select large numbers at once other than shift-clicking batches.
  2. Empty the Recycle Bin in the account.

Do I Have Content in Google Photos?

Smartphones can automatically back up their photos or videos to Google Photos when you sign in to your Carthage Google account on your personal devices. To see if you have Google Photos stored, log in to your Carthage email. then click the "waffle" icon in the upper right and click on Photos. If you see photos there you have stored photos you need to delete.
