Photos: How do I connect my smartphone Google Photos to a personal Gmail account?

Answer

Because Google no longer provides the College with free unlimited storage, Carthage is asking all of its users to please NOT connect Google Photos on their phone to their carthage.edu account.

Check if Google Photos is connected to your carthage.edu account or a personal account:

1. Open Google Photos on your smartphone.

2. Look at the upper right corner of the screen for the icon that shows which account it is connected to.

3. You may also find which account Photos is using by clicking "Google Photos settings" near the bottom.

4. On the Settings screen look for the "Backup" setting. make sure it is backing up to a personal Gmail account rather than your Carthage account.

If you need to switch Photos backup to a personal account,

1. Go back to the main screen and tap the round name icon again.

2. On the next screen tap the down arrow to the right of your account info.

3. IF you see your personal Gmail listed there, tap that instead If not, click "Add another account."

4. You may need to login to your personal Gmail to complete the process. The sync may take a while, and you may need to make sure you have enough space in your personal Gmail account for all the photos.
