What can I do if my wifi isn't working properly?
What can I do to troubleshoot my wifi connection? What if it keeps dropping? What if it isn't reliable? What if I can't get to the internet on campus wifi?
Answer
IF you believe that there is a campus-wide or building-wide wifi issue based on multiple people and devices having issues in multiple locations, please email to help@carthage.edu to report the issue. Be sure to include what locations, what people, and what devices are experiencing the problems. Give as many specifics as possible.
IF it is affecting only or primarily your own device, please try the following. 90% of the time, there ARE things that users can do to troubleshoot and/or fix their own wifi issues.
1. If you have BOTH Carthage-Secure and Carthage-Open defined on your device, it will drop your connection frequently. Make sure you only have ONE or the other defined. For instructions on how to "Forget" one of those, look at https://carthage.libanswers.com/faq/349703
2. If your issues are on a phone, you may have a feature called "MAC randomization" turned on (nothing to do with Macintosh...) Read the appropriate one of these two articles on how to fix that: https://carthage.libanswers.com/search/?q=randomization&t=0
3. Make sure that your device is registered. For phones and computers, see https://carthage.libanswers.com/faq/349603. For gaming consoles and other devices without browsers, see https://carthage.libanswers.com/faq/349602
