How do I clean out my passwords from Google Chrome?

Answer

Whenever your computer offers to remember a password to any website (e.g. Email, shopping site, vendor site, etc.,) it is stored in your browser. Saving passwords in a browser is a very dangerous practice since it is easy to discover those passwords. Best practice is to turn off the ability to store passwords in your browser, but if you ever have, you should clean them out. This is also true of stored credit card information.

How to look up and clean out passwords and credit card numbers

1. Make sure that you are logged into your browser. You should be able to see your icon at the upper right corner of your screen. It could be the first letter of your first name or a photo you chose. Click on it.

2. Below your name and email address, click either the key icon (for passwords) or the credit card icon.

3. Your various saved passwords will be displayed.

4. If you need to recover a password that you don't remember, click the triangle/arrow to the right of the it. Login when prompted (e.g. Windows) using the password for your computer. If you are using a Carthage-owned computer, that will be your Carthage password.

5. When the item box opens, you can click the Eye icon at the right end of the password field to view the password. Alternately, you can click the copy icon to copy it for use in a form, etc.

6. To delete the password for that site or item, click the Delete button.

You can use the Checkup link in the left-hand navigation to let Chrome tell you which of your passwords have been compromised or are reused or weak.
From that list, you have the option to Change that password online, or use the three dot icon at the right to Show, Edit, or Delete that password.  If you do, you will also be prompted to enter your password.
