Fixing Issues with PaperCut on Mac

Reinstall the PaperCut Client
First, we quit the Papercut client.
- Open Activity Monitor (/Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor)
- Select the process named UserClient, then click the stop sign icon in the toolbar to stop the process. When prompted, select Quit.
- Quit Activity Monitor.
Next, we grab the new PaperCut client and set it up.
- Make sure you're signed into NoMAD.
- Open a Finder window, then use the Command+K keyboard shortcut to connect to the following server:
smb://papercut-app/pcclient/mac
- Copy the PCClient app from this server folder to your Applications folder. When prompted, select Replace.
- Navigate to your Applications folder.
- Right-click on PCClient → Select Show Package Contents.
- Navigate to Contents → Resources
- Double-click install-login-hook.command, which will launch a Terminal window. When prompted, type no and press Enter.
- Type your computer password when prompted, then press Enter.
- Close the Terminal window when it's done.
- Double-click pc-client-mac.command, which will launch a Terminal window.
- It will print some lines of text. When it prints WARNING: All illegal access operations will be denied in a future release, use the Control+C keyboard command to kill the process.
- Type exit and press Enter to close that Terminal window.
- Double-click set-permissions.command, which will launch a Terminal window.
- Type your computer password when prompted, then press Enter.
- Close the Terminal window when it's done.
Next, we have to fix the IP address.
- Open a Terminal window.
- Type or copy/paste the following:
nano /Applications/PCClient.app/Contents/Resources/config.properties
- Change server-ip to be
10.2.2.1
. - Use the Control+X keyboard shortcut to save your changes.
- When prompted, type y, then press Enter.
Reinstall the Printer Share
- Open System Preferences → Printers & Scanners
- If you've got any permutation of "Carthage Print" in your list of printeres, remove it by selecting it and clicking the - (minus) button.
- Click the + (plus) button.
- Right-click in the Add Printer window's toolbar → Customize Toolbar...
- Drag the Advanced icon into the Add Printer window's toolbar.
- Click Done.
- Click on the Advanced button in the Add Printer window's toolbar.
- Give the window a second to load.
- Select Windows printer via spoolss from the Type dropdown menu.
- Change the URL to
smb://papercut-app/carthageprint
- Set the Name to PaperCut / Carthage Print
- Select Generic PCL Printer from the Use dropdown menu.
- Click the Add button.
- When prompted, check the Duplexer option, then click the OK button.
