Gmail: How do I designate an individual access to a Gmail account?
Answer
One may designate an individual to have access to a Gmail account that doesn't belong to them. For instance, I have my Carthage Gmail account, but I want to have access to the archives@carthage.edu Gmail account via my personal Carthage account. That way, I can see the content of that account via my personal Inbox and can access it via OneLogin.
- When logged in to the account you want to designate (in this case archives@carthage.edu), click the Settings icon > See all settings.
- Under Accounts, then under Grant access to your account, click Add another account.
- In the next window, enter the email address for the individual to which you'd like to grant access. Click Next Step.
- In the confirmation window, click Send email to grant access.
- In the Inbox of the designee, you will see an email asking you to accept or deny access to the account. Click on the link that indicates you accept the request and click Confirm in the confirmation window.
- Refresh your Gmail inbox. When clicking your photo circle in the upper, right, you should now see the new email address with the status of "Delegated."
This process will not delegate Google Drive access for that account.
