Audiovisual Equipment

• SHARP TV - Displays content from a VGA cable, HDMI cable, or the Mac Mini attached to it. It is touch-enabled. Controlled by pressing the buttons on the lower left corner of its face, or by using the remote.
• Mac Mini - A compact computer that runs macOS 10.11 "El Capitan" and Windows 10. On both the Mac and Windows sides, the user account is Nursing with the password nursing. The computer automatically log into the Nursing account of whichever operating system it's on at the time. The Mac Mini is controlled with the Apple Magic Mouse & Keyboard that are stored in the cabinet, or the touch-enabled SHARP TV. USB Ports and power button are exposed behind the left side of the TV.
• Apple Magic Mouse & Keyboard - Keyboard and mouse that are connected to the Mac Mini. They should always be stored inside the room's cabinet when not in use. They do not have replaceable batteries; when their internal batteries get low, they can be charged with a USB-to-Lightning cable. There should be one USB-to-Lightning cable in the cabinet. To turn them on, flip their switches (located on the bottom of the mouse, and located on the back edge of the keyboard) so that you see green, and then click their buttons a few times to wake them up. If the mouse, keyboard, or USB-to-Lightning cable are lost or stolen, contact Media Services in the library.
• VGA and HDMI Cables - Cables to connect your laptop to the SHARP TV. The cables stored in the cabinet beneath the TV. You connect the cables to the left side of the TV, immediately beside the Mac Mini. The ports are labelled so that you know where to plug the cables in.

Power Schedule

The SHARP TV & Mac Mini are scheduled to turn on every weekday at 7:30AM and turn off every night at 10:00PM if they're still on. Please turn the TV off after use. If you turn the TV on to use the Mac Mini, give the Apple Magic Mouse or Keyboard a few clicks & wait for the Mac Mini to wake up. If it doesn't wake up after a few seconds, then proceed to press and hold the Mac Mini's power button, located behind the left side of the Sharp TV, until you hear its startup chime, which sounds like a gong.

Note that while the Windows side of the Mac Mini is is scheduled to shutdown at 10:00PM, it will not turn itself on automatically the next morning. Unlike Mac OS, Windows does not support the ability to schedule start times for computers. If the Mac Mini is off after 7:30AM, assume that it was previously started up in Windows. When you press the power button, it will start up into Windows.

Connecting Your Laptop using the VGA Cable

1. If the TV is not on, turn it on using the power button located on the lower-elft corner of the TV's bezel, or using the power button on its remote, labelled Nursing Touch TV.
2. Remove the VGA cable from the cabinet under the TV. The VGA cable is the black cable with the large plugs and a 3/4-inch "aux" audio cable attached to either end.
3. Plug the end of the VGA cable with the shorter 3/4-inch "aux" audio cable into the Touch TV. The TV's VGA port is located on the left side of the TV, and is labelled VGA.
4. Make sure the TV is on the VGA input by pressing the Touch Menu button on the lower-left corner of the TV's face, or pressing the Input button on the TV remote, and select the VGA input in the Side Terminal section.
5. Boot up your laptop COMPLETELY before connecting the VGA cable from the TV. Then plug in the cable.
   • If your computer requires you to use an adapter to project (for example, all MacBook Pros with VGA), first plug the cable into your adapter, then plug the adapter into your computer.
6. Send the image to the TV:
   • On Windows computers, press and hold the Windows key and P key. Select the Duplicate to send the image to the projector.
   • On a Mac, click the Apple icon > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement > Mirror Displays.
7. For sound, plug the 3/4-inch "aux" cable attached to the VGA cable into your laptop's headphone jack. Volume is controlled first by the output volume of your laptop, and then by the Volume +/- buttons on the Nursing Touch TV remote.
8. When you're done with the TV, please turn it off and return the VGA cable to the cabinet. Hit the power button on the TV remote to turn it off.

Connecting Your Laptop using an HDMI Cable

1. If the TV is not on, turn it on using the power button located on the lower-elft corner of the TV's bezel, or using the power button on its remote, labelled Nursing Touch TV.
2. Remove the HDMI cable from the cabinet under the TV. The HDMI cable has red and black stripes.
3. Plug either end of the HDMI cable into the Touch TV. The TV's HDMI port is located on the left side of the TV, and is labelled HDMI.
4. Make sure the TV is on the HDMI2 input by pressing the Touch Menu button on the lower-left corner of the TV's face, or pressing the Input button on the TV remote, and select the HDMI2 input in the Side Terminal section.
5. Boot up your laptop COMPLETELY before connecting the HDMI cable from the TV. Then plug in the cable.
   • If your computer requires you to use an adapter to project, first plug the cable into your adapter, then plug the adapter into your computer.
6. Send the image to the TV:
   • On Windows computers, press and hold the Windows key and P key. Select the Duplicate to send the image to the projector.
   • On a Mac, click the Apple icon > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement > Mirror Displays.
7. Volume is controlled by the Volume +/- buttons on the Nursing Touch TV remote.
   1. On Windows computers, right-click the Speaker icon in your taskbar and select Playback devices from the popup menu. In the window that pops up, if there isn't a check under the SHARP input, right-click on it, then select Set as Default Device.
   2. On a Mac, click the Apple icon > System Preferences > Sound > Output tab > Select the SHARP option from the list.
8. When you're done with the TV, please turn it off and return the HDMI cable to the cabinet. Hit the power button on the TV remote to turn it off.

Using the Mac Mini

1. If the TV is not on, turn it on using its remote, labelled Nursing Touch TV.
2. Make sure the TV is on the HDMI1 input by pressing the Touch Menu button on the lower-left corner of the TV's face, or pressing the Input button on the TV remote, and select the HDMI1 input in the Bottom Terminal section.
3. If the Mac Mini is not on, turn it on by pressing its power button, located behind the left side of the TV. When the Mac Mini turns on, you will hear a startup chime, which sounds a bit like a gong.
4. Control the Mac Mini using the touch-enabled TV, or the Apple Magic Mouse & Keyboard, stored in the cabinet below the TV.
5. Volume is controlled by the Volume +/- buttons on the Nursing Touch TV remote.
6. To switch between macOS and Windows...
   • From macOS to Windows: Double-click the Restart to Windows 10 icon on the Desktop > Click the lock icon > When prompted for a password, type nursing then click the Unlock button > Select BOOTCAMP Windows from the list > Click the Restart... button.
   • From Windows to macOS: Double click the Restart to macOS icon on the Desktop > When a User Account Control takes over the screen, click the Yes button > Select Mac OS X from the list > Click the Apply button > Click the Restart button > When a Boot Camp window pops up, click OK.
7. When you're done with the TV, please turn it off and return the mouse and keyboard to the cabinet. Hit the power button on the TV remote to turn it off.

Leaving the TV running for extended periods while it's not in use significantly shortens the life of the TV. To turn off the TV, push the power button on its remote.
