How do I access Hedberg Library's resources off-campus?
Answer
Off-Campus Access to Library Electronic Resources
Consult this video for a quick how-to for off-campus access.
When you are off-campus, you will have to access library resources for research in a different manner than you might be used to. You will need to go through the Library webpage so that the database vendors know that you are part of the Carthage Community and are allowed access.
Library Databases
Please visit this webpage (http://carthage.libguides.com/carthagelibrary) or navigate to this page: Carthage College > Library > "Search the Library Catalog" link in the lower, center of the page.
Click on "All Electronic Resources" at the right. This will give you a list of resources and databases to choose from. For example, if you want to look at the EBSCOhost databases, click on the "E" in the alphabet at the top and scroll down to "EBSCOhost databases." Clicking on that link in this manner allows the database to know you will be using the Carthage College subscription.
You will be asked for your Carthage credentials to log in. Entering your Carthage credentials will authenticate you with the system and should allow you access to all of the Hedberg Library databases from off-campus.
Library Catalog
Accessing the Carthage library online catalog from off-campus is identical to accessing it from on-campus. Since the library catalog is web-based, it can be accessed from any web browser anywhere.
Please visit this webpage (http://carthage.libguides.com/carthagelibrary) or navigate to this page: Carthage College > Library > "Search the Library Catalog" link in the lower, center of the page. Clicking on "Advanced Search" will give you more options.
If you find resources through the catalog and click on the links for access, you will be directed to our subscriptions (you will still likely have to log in for that remote access).
Please email help@carthage.edu if you have questions.
