How do I register a Chromecast device to the Carthage network?
Answer
To set up your Chromecast on the Carthage network, please perform the following steps after hooking your Chromecast up to your TV. Go to the appropriate input channel for the HDMI port you plugged the Chromecast into on your TV. Next, go to https://cast.google.com/chromecast/setup/ and click the blue box titled ‘Download.’
Once the download has finished, open the download, and click ‘Run’ to install the app. Complete the walkthrough, accepting terms, etc. until the following screen is displayed.
Click ‘Continue’ and the following screen should come up with a unique code based on your Chromecast. This code should match the one displayed on your TV. Click ‘That’s My Code’ if they match.
The next screen will ask which network you would like the Chromecast to connect to. Choose Carthage-Open if it’s not already selected from the network drop-down box. The password box is blank. This is where you can name your Chromecast, personalize it, and give it a unique name you can better recognize. The MAC address of your particular Chromecast should be displayed at the bottom of this screen as well. *Make sure to register it* at https://connect.carthage.edu/device-registration.
*If you still needed to register your Chromecast, reboot your Chromecast for it and the network to recognize that it is now registered. This can be done by holding in the button on the device itself for about a minute. You will need to redo the previous steps (with the exception of the download) to get back to this point as the Chromecast obtains a new temporary name every time it is rebooted. The quickest way is to close the app, and reopen it, (it will appear on your programs if on PC or in your applications if on Mac) then follow the steps over again.*
Click ‘Continue’ and the Chromecast should be able to communicate with our campus WIFI (as long as it was properly registered) and will finish its setup process. The following screen should appear once the setup has been completed successfully.
Click the blue box titled ‘Get Cast Extension’ and the following should pop up through your Chrome browser.
Click the blue box titled ‘Add Extension’ then the following should pop up.
Click ‘Add’ and it closes, but you should now see a new icon on the upper right side of your Chrome browser. Click this icon, then click the name of your Chromecast and start casting.
To install from your phone, go to your phone's app store or marketplace, and search from Chromecast. Download and install the app. Once this is complete, simply open the Chromecast app, and it will auto-discover any Chromecasts that are within 20 feet that have successfully been set up. Tap the three lines in the upper left corner to get a drop-down. Tap ‘Cast Screen’ and a box will pop up with the Chromecasts it has found. Tap on your Chromecast and the connection will be established and you will be ready to start casting from your phone to your TV.
