How do I submit a request to place items on Course Reserve?

Answer

COURSE RESERVE POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Library-Owned Items
If the library currently owns the item we will pull it from the general collection to place on course reserve for your class.

Items Not Owned by the Library
If the library does not own the item you would like to place on course reserve, you may request that we purchase a copy via the form below. The librarians will decide whether or not the books are appropriate for the library’s general collection, and if so, we will purchase one copy of the item.

REQUEST MATERIALS FOR THE LIBRARY COLLECTION

Personal Items
Professors’ personal items may also be placed on Course Reserve. We will assign the item a temporary barcode and allow students to check the material out from the library.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • LIS does not place materials that belong to other libraries on reserve whether they have been ordered through interlibrary loan or checked out from other libraries.
  • LIS does not purchase textbooks to be placed on Course Reserve (as opposed to texts for class). These textbooks tend to be revised and updated often, leading to the purchase of expensive books that are quickly outdated. If a professor would like a textbook to be placed on reserve that Carthage does not own, they (or their department) may purchase an additional copy or request one from the publisher; that copy may be given to the library to add to the collection or to be placed on Course Reserve as a professor’s personal item. Please refer to the Carthage Library and Information Services Collection Development Policy, part III, section A for further information.
  • Faculty members are responsible for obtaining copyright permission if needed. For further information on Hedberg Library’s policies on copyright, please consult the Copyright Information webpage on the LIS website.
