How do I connect to the College's VPN?

Answer

Carthage College provides VPN access only upon request. To request VPN, please send an email to help@carthage.edu outlining what network resources to which you require remote access. Once permissions have been assigned, follow the instructions below to connect.

NOTE: VPN services are only available to current Carthage faculty and staff

Download and install the VPN client, Palo Alto Global Protect

* IMPORTANT: Carthage's VPN client authenticates through OneLogin, so you must be set up to access OneLogin and have a 2-factor authentication method in place prior to connecting to VPN.

1. Open a web browser (Google Chrome is recommended) and navigate to https://vpn.carthage.edu.

2. Log in with your Carthage username and password (do NOT include @carthage.edu). Then choose the appropriate download. If you are running Windows, choose the Window 64-bit option; if you are on a Mac, choose the Mac 32-bit option.

3. Once downloaded, click the installer/downloader to install the Global Protect Client.

4. Accept all default options (Next, Next, Next, Close) to install the agent. You do not need to change anything.

5. The GlobalProtect application will automatically open and ask you for a portal address. Type "vpn.carthage.edu" and then click "Connect."

Connecting to VPN

1. You can find the GlobalProtect VPN client (a small globe icon) at the top of a Mac or under the System Tray on a Windows device.

2. Click "Connect" on the GlobalProtect application and a web browser will open to Carthage's Single Sign-On platform OneLogin. Enter your Carthage username and password (do NOT include @carthage.edu).

3. VPN will prompt you to confirm the 2-factor authentication method you've set up for OneLogin. Complete that confirmation.

4. VPN will connect once authentication is confirmed. If you continue to see "connecting" and the system does not connect, click "Disconnect" and then "Connect" again.
